Old Jewish Cemetery

|
The main historic Jewish cemetery in Wroclaw is also the location of the Museum of Cemetery Arts, just a couple of kilometres south of the Old Town. Officially founded in the mid-19th century, the oldest tombstone in the museum dates back to the 13th century. Apart from visiting the resting places of many famous Wroclaw residents (such as Ferdinand LaSalle, the founder of the first labour party in Germany) there are many interesting pieces of small architecture among the gravesites to explore. Steles, columns, obelisks, stone tree trunks, sarcophaguses, mausoleum chapels, and sepulchres are just some of the interesting bits of history at the Museum. |
