La Luz

Formerly known as Baszta, La Luz is an innovative new venture set in the impressive environs of a 13th century guard tower. Part wine-bar, part cafe and part restaurant La Luz offers a wide range of pleasant distractions - and none more so than its authentic Californian-Mexican cuisine. Traditional cooking practices from south west America, along with fresh herbs, imported tortillas and homemade salsa, mean that La Luz is the place to head for burritos, nachos and the intriguingly titled 'Mexican Pizzas' - all of which are available late at night courtesy of their hard-working kitchen. If you're not hungry however then you can still drop by for a glass of Cava in the La Luz wine bar...

La Luz

"Whoever wrote that last strange message does not know what he's saying. The new restaurant is not even open yet. A major renovation of the kitchen is taking place which will be an enormous improvement, a similar and yet even better Mexican menu will remain aside a menu of dishes of influences from Thailand to Morocco and the chef is highly skilled, having worked with various chefs in London for the past five years. "Take something good and fly it right into the mountain. La Luz is no more. Name has changed to Abrams tower and they now serve fusion. It's not horrible, but it damn sure isn't anything special anymore."

"Yes, actual black beans, cilantro, salsa, spanish rice, and corn chips. The Mexico Bar is easier to find than La Luz, but a distant second being Polish-style rather than California-style food. It took four trips to find it, but well worth it. Easiest way I found is starting from Mercure down Katarzyny, by cutting between some buildings at the end you are presented with the faint glow of your welcome. The owner is a great guy from California still fighting to make a great experience for natives and visitors alike."

"A very special place with a unique atmosphere. I'm a big wine drinker and the music, the light and the freedom I feel there is the perfect place for drinking wine. "

"Well, there IS a Mexican restaurant that may not be run by a Mexican but by a California artist. It's the only Mexican restaurant I've found in Poland so far that uses fresh cilantro and makes its own chips from imported corn tortillas. I've been all over Europe and not found salsa that rivals theirs which is both homemade and imported from Mexico. The problem is its location, a 10 minute walk from the busy market square, hidden behind some aging socialist flats. It's not easy to find but a rare gem, if you can imagine, inside of an ancient tower. The tragedy is that the locals who go there don't even know what they are missing, most of them hanging out for the artistic atmosphere, drinking wines, cocktails and too much Polish beer. ;)"

"Finally after searching long and hard I found the real quality Mexican food in Wroclaw! At first it was hard to find the Old historic tower. However it was worth the search! The food is great! I haven't tasted food this good in Poland!I was also surprised by the amazing selection of import wines. Worth the visit! It's a must see! "
