White-line goods' manufacturer Fagor Electrodomestico announced plans to invest 31 million Euro by 2008 at its Wrozamet factory in Wroclaw, Poland. Fagor is to use the money to enlarge the factory by nearly 20,000 square metres and multiply production capacity a massive fourfold to 2,730,000 household appliances a year.
There will be an increase of nearly 1,000 in the workforce at the factory, taking the number of people employed at Wrozamet from 1118 to over 2000 by the end of the enlargement.
With the four-year plan brought to a successful conclusion, the Fagor group's Wrozamet factory will be capable of producing 500,000 washing machines, 1,000,000 kitchen stoves and gas hobs, and around 600,000 fridges on a yearly basis. That's a lot of white goods! Management sources at the multinational say that the new investment plan will include aids for job creation and tax exemptions offered by Wroclaw's local authorities and the Polish Government, in line with Polish regulations governing the promotion of economic activities in special economic zones.
At present, the MCC group, owner of Fagor, employs more than 11,000 people, who work at 16 factories located in Spain, Poland, France, Morocco, Italy and China. After acquiring leading French white line producer Brandt last April, the group recently announced sales in 2004 totalling 940.8 million Euro, up 3.4 per cent on the previous year. Profits came to 16.8 million Euro, similar to the 2003 figure.
