Dalai Lama Honoured In Wroclaw

The exiled spiritual leader of Tibet, the Dalai Lama, was made an honorary citizen of Wroclaw by city president Rafal Dutkiewicz earlier this year in recognition of his struggle against political repression - a theme close to every Pole's heart after the dark days of Communism.

“The Dalai Lama has made tremendous efforts to keep the struggle going in face of a ruthless regime for the freedom of his people for five decades. Every lover of freedom and human rights should salute him. It is our privilege to confer upon him honorary citizenship of our city-Wroclaw,” said Dutkiewicz in a public announcement.

It is hoped that the Dalai Lama will come to Wroclaw later in the year to accept his honorary citizenship in person.
