Public Transport gets an Upgrade
Wroclaw's public transport system, the MPK, will be getting a few upgrades in the near future.
The summer may be slowly winding down, but when the heat hits Wroclaw, spending even a few minutes in a bus can be an exhausting experience. Luckily 33 new buses will soon be hitting the streets, with one significant bonus: air conditioning! By 2012, over 100 buses with air conditioning installed are planned to hit the streets. Take a break from the heat on buses running on the: 107, 612, 113, 122, 125, 126, 127, 134, 136, 400, and 409 lines.
Wroclaw's public transport is based on a proof-of-payment system. Tickets are bought at kiosks or machines, and must be validated directly on the vehicle. Wroclaw currently has about 50 ticket controllers keeping an eye on the trams and buses, though the MPK still loses a significant amount of money from this system every year. The controllers board vehicles in plain clothes and identify themselves while the vehicle en route.
Soon however, the number of controllers will grow to 100 - and they will be looking quite different. The concept behind the new uniforms is to put forward an attitude of professionalism and a straightforward, modern approach to controlling tickets on the MPK.
