In preparation for the Euro football championship set to take place partly in Wroclaw in 2012, the city has been in the process of building a brand new stadium for the event.
Earlier last year Wroclaw’s stadium construction appeared to be progressing at a steady rate, though in recent months severe delays have cast doubt on the city’s ability to handle the task. The project eventually began to fall several months behind on schedule, resulting in mayor of Wroclaw, Rafal Dutkiewicz, cancelling the contract with construction group Mostostal Warszawa.
The decision was made in co-operation with UEFA, and a new constructor is hoped to found by the end of January. If the project fails to meet final deadlines, the games set to be hosted in Wroclaw may be moved to a neighbouring city such as Chorzow or Krakow.
