Rare Hippo Born in Wroclaw Zoo

A rare pygmy hippopotamus was born in Wroclaw's zoo a couple of weeks ago, and was recently unveiled for the media and public. International media covered the event as the hippo was one of only four such hippos to be born in European zoos this year. And what's more, the other such hippos were female - a much more common occurrence - whereas the yet unnamed hippo born here in Wroclaw is male.

The hippo is part of an endangered species originally from western Africa - in fact only about 3000 are thought to remain.
