Poland Re-Elects Civic Platform to Leadership

 

Following vigorous campaigning from all sides, Poland went to the polls to elect its next government in a parliamentary election. The centre-right Civic Platform (PO) party, led by Donald Tusk, won the election, re-electing the party into power with a 40 percent vote of support.

In second place was conservative party PiS, the Law and Justice Party, led by Jarowslaw Kaczynski were disappointed with their 30 per cent outcome. The big surprise of the night went to the Palikot Movement party, a new player on the political scene led by controversial figure Janusz Palikot. The party won 10 per cent public support in the election with its socially liberal political goals.
