European Presidents Mark 200 Years of Wroclaw University
The presidents of Poland, Ukraine, and Germany, have gathered in Wroclaw to mark the 200th anniversary of the prestigious Wroclaw University. Polish President Komorowski and German President Wulff also visited the Wroclaw Market Square with city mayor Rafal Dutkiewicz, and laid flowers at a monument in honour of 25 professors murdered by Nazis in 1941.
The presidents also gathered to hold talks on several issues, primarily to discuss the imprisonment of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. After being accused of exceeding her powers in 2009, Tymoshenko was sentenced in October of this year to seven years in prison for fraud. With Poland currently holding the EU Presidency, the leaders also discussed the integration process for Ukraine within the European Union.
