Wroclaw Rings in the New Year
Wroclaw marked the end of 2011 and start of 2012 with its annual New Year’s Eve celebrations, right on the city’s Market Square. The party was broadcast on television across the country as the city boasted one of the biggest celebrations in the region.
Some of the evening’s musical guests included Polish bands like Vavamuffin, L.U.C., Urszula Dudziak, Zakopower, Lech Janerka, T. Love, Kayah, and Monika Brodka.
Roughly 220 000 attended the event, with enthusiastic revelers being drawn from across the country to see the special event and fireworks at midnight. Poland’s capital Warsaw also hosted an impressive, televised public party, though other cities such as Krakow had a more frugal approach with pre-recorded music playing on the Market Square and a simple fireworks show to kick off the new year.
