Skalpel return with 'Konfusion'

Local duo Skalpel have made a triumphant return to the top of the Polish music scene, with their much-anticipated second album 'Konfusion'. Following the success of their '1958 Breaks' album was always going to be difficult, but with Konfusion wowing the critics, the boys Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudlo are set to reach new levels of acclaim.

They have worked hard to achieve it too. The two DJs/Producers from Wroclaw have left no stone uncovered in the quest to uncover the best records and samples of 60s and 70s Eastern European Jazz, all for them to twist into their own unique brand of electronic music.

With their second release for Ninja Tune Records, Skalpel are taking their audience on a deeper, darker journey into they roots of Polish jazz and breaks than on 1958, and result is something more personal and more evocative of the times that inspired them.

Jazz in the 60s and 70s was a form of creativity and escapism from the oppressive and restrictive Communist regime of the time. As such it resonated with particularly strong emotions and unique sense of freedom, and it is these ideas which the Polish duo are in part trying to capture - and then re-imagine for the modern listener.

The result has been described as evocative, atmospheric and a must for the thinker's coffee table! Definitely worth exploring then for anyone with an interest in Polish culture, past and present.
