Wroclaw to build new airport for PLN 600m

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – In May, Wroclaw authorities will choose the final design for its new airport. In three years, the airport should be ready.

There are 23 teams working over the idea to develop the airport in Wroclaw. In three and a half months, the company managing the airport will choose the project, which will be implemented.

“Till the end of the year 2008, a new terminal should be ready allowing to serve four times more passengers, or 2m a year”, Zbigniew Salek, deputy CEO for planning and development in the Wroclaw airport said. Two out of three shareholders of the managing company will participate in this project: the town and the region. The state airport company PPPL will not take part in the investment.

“The terminal will cost PLN 100-120m (EUR 26.5-31.8m). Local authorities are able to engage up to half of this amount”, Jaroslaw Obremski, deputy mayor of Wroclaw said.

Apart from the terminal, the airport infrastructure will be developed. A three-star hotel is also planned.

“We do not know detailed costs of the project. I estimate them at PLN 400-500m, excluding the costs of the terminal”, Zbigniew Salek said.

Last year, the airport had 454,000 passengers. This year, it expects the number to grow to 800,000.
