Great news for citizens of Wroclaw and fans of this splendid city. The Wroclaw Municipal Council has just announced that four hundred of its most forlorn buildings will be receiving a full facelift over the next four years.
Although Wroclaw is an undeniably beautiful city, it's also - how can we put this politely - a little rough round the edges. You don't have to stray too far from the resplendent Market Square to find rather drab housing estates and fading tenements. Not a great advertisement for the city - nor, more importantly, such a nice place to live.
Although the council had been restoring 30 tenements a year, thanks to Wroclaw's increasing prosperity, 100 restoration jobs a year is now fully possible. The lucky government buildings in question will receive, not only a fresh lick of paint, but new windows, stairwells and roofs. Hurrah!
